The Tradeoff between Maintaining Maize (Zea mays L.) Productivity and Improving Soil Quality under Conservation Tillage Practice in Semi-Arid Region of Northeast China

چکیده
Conservation tillage has received strong support globally to achieve food security and minimize environmental impacts. However, there are comprehensive debates on whether it can the synergy between maintaining crop yields improving soil quality. To this end, a field experiment under continuous maize (Zea mays L.) cropping was conducted in northeast China. The treatment included rotary with straw removal (CK, conventional tillage) tillage, subsoiling no retention (CR, CS, CN, respectively). Maize yield set of physio-chemical indicators relation quality were measured during 2017 2021. Results showed that CN significantly reduced by 24.9%, 23.1%, 19.5% average compared CR, CK, CS treatments, respectively. increased ratio >2 mm aggregates geometric mean diameter (GMD) 0–20 cm layer those CK CR treatments. treatments had higher bulk density compaction Soil organic carbon total nitrogen than 5.1–15.0% 8.5–15.7%, whereas NH4+ lower 9.1–13.9% correspondingly. also temperature early-growth stage maize. Importance analysis indicated temperature, density, available key factors affecting yield. Overall, mulching could improve stability fertility but Alternatively, minimum (e.g., might be suitable practice as maintains improves practices semi-arid region China short term.

Principal component analysis is a valid method used for data compression and information extraction in a given set of experiments. It is a well-known classical data analysis technique. There are a number of algorithms for solving the problems, some scaling better than others. Wheat ranks as the staple food of most of the nations as well as an agent of poverty reduction, food security and world ...
متن کاملImproving soil surface properties: a driving force for conservation tillage under semi-arid conditions
The effect of long term conservation tillage (CT) application on soil organic carbon (SOC) concentration, and on stratification ratios (SR) of SOC, soluble organic carbon (SOCs), microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and protease activity (PA) has been studied. The SR was established dividing values of these variables at 0-5 cm depth by values at 10-25 cm depth. The results were compared with those ob...
متن کاملMaize (Zea mays L.).
Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...
متن کاملWeed Composition in Maize (zea Mays L.) Fields under Smallholder Conservation Farming
Smallholder farmers in southern Africa have reported on increased labour requirements for hoe weeding due to high weed infestations in conservation farming (CF) fields. However, CF proponents claim that weed pressure and labour requirements for weeding decrease within the first three years under the recommended CF practices. An observational study was carried out during the 2008/09 cropping sea...

In this study, nitrogen fertilizer was applied to corn (Zea mays L.) at conventional (excessive) and recommended levels, and the growth response was assessed by measuring plant height and stem perimeter. Corn plant maximum height was observed in recommended rates of N fertilizer treatment, and the height without N fertilizer was the same as that receiving excess N fertilizer. Stem perimeter was...
